Childcare First Aid – No Longer Offered in Ontario (WSIB Update)
Childcare First Aid was once a popular program designed specifically for individuals working with infants and children. However, as of 2010, the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario updated its regulations and Childcare First Aid is no longer an approved certification in the province.
Under the updated WSIB First Aid Regulation 1101, Standard First Aid officially replaces Childcare First Aid for all workplaces and childcare-related environments in Ontario.
This means that anyone who works in childcare, early childhood education, daycare facilities, or with children in any regulated capacity must now complete a WSIB-approved Standard First Aid course.
At Hamilton First Aid, we offer WSIB-approved Standard First Aid & CPR training, which fully meets all provincial childcare safety requirements and exceeds the former Childcare First Aid standards.
Why Childcare Workers Must Take Standard First Aid
✔ WSIB Regulation Change (Since 2010)
WSIB discontinued Childcare First Aid and mandated Standard First Aid as the required certification for all workers who previously would have taken childcare-specific training.
✔ Covers All Required Infant & Child Emergencies
Standard First Aid includes:
- Infant CPR (with CPR-C or BLS)
- Child CPR and choking response
- Allergic reactions & anaphylaxis
- Pediatric breathing emergencies
- Febrile seizures
- Childhood injuries (burns, fractures, bleeding, etc.)
Standard First Aid provides more training, more hands-on practice, and broader emergency coverage than the old Childcare First Aid program.
